Florence Transportation System Plan Update - Open House and Workshop #2Virtual Workshop

Roadway Alternatives

This room identifies alternatives to address existing gaps and deficiencies and future needs in the roadway system as well as alternatives that will facilitate improvements to the pedestrian, bicycle, and public transit systems.

Functional Classification

Functional classification designations align the design of a roadway with its intended function. Potential changes to the City's functional classifications are shown in the exhibit to the right and summarized below.

  1. Designate 4th Ave (Heceta Beach Rd to Joshua Ln) as a collector
  2. Designate 15th Street (US 101 to Spruce Street) as a collector
  3. Designate 30th Street (Oak Street to Spruce Street) as a collector
  4. Designate Quince Street (OR 126 to US 101) as a collector

Major Street Connections

The roadway system needs to balance the benefits of providing a well-connected grid system with the connectivity challenges in the city due topographic and other natural constraints as well as existing development. Opportunities to create new major street connection are shown in the exhibit to the right and summarized below.

  1. Extend Pacific View Drive to Rhododendron Drive
  2. Extend Munsel Lake Road to the Oak Street
  3. Extend Oak Street from Heceta Beach Road to Fred Meyers
  4. Extend Spruce Street to the Heceta Beach Road
  5. Extend Oak Street from Heceta Beach Road to the north city limits

Intersection Alternatives

Several major intersections are expected operate with high levels of delay in the future. The intersection treatments and alternatives considered to address deficiencies are shown in the exhibit to the right and summarized below.

  1. Install a separate left and/or right-turn lane
  2. Install a traffic signal when warranted
  3. Optimize the traffic signal timing/phasing
  4. Upgrade an existing traffic signal
  5. Install a roundabout
