5 - Contributing Factors Data

Aggressive driving, inexperienced drivers, and roadway departures are the most frequent factors that contribute to severe crashes. As shown before, 93% of crashes involve driver error. Note that each of the contributing factors shown above also involve driver error.

Note that distracted driving isn't shown above as a frequent contributing factor. Distracted driving data is difficult to collect, as most drivers don't admit that they were driving distracted. Because of this, distracted driving is probably underreported as a contributing factor to severe crashes.
