1 - The Problem

From 2009 to 2015, 183 people were killed and another 795 suffered serious injuries in traffic crashes on roads in Clackamas County. The economic impact of these, and less severe, crashes was close to $800 million, and the emotional impact was far greater.

Note: all crash statistics provided by Clackamas County.

Additionally, reported crashes have generally increased in Clackamas County since 2009.

The graph below shows contributing factors in crashes from a national study. In the U.S., 93% of crashes involve driver error, which tells us that it's essential to develop a culture of safe driving if we're going to improve traffic safety outcomes in the county.
